10 Year High School Reunion

This past weekend was my 10 Year High School Reunion.  I didn't go.  A lot of people seem very surprised by this.  I mean, come on, it's been 10 years!!!  But, in my opinion, between Facebook and technology, I keep in touch with the people I want to keep in touch with.  The reason one goes to a reunion (in my opinion) is to find out where everyone wound up, how they're doing, and what they're up to these days.  With Facebook, we already know!  OR, we're not Facebook friends with the people we truly DON'T CARE what they're up to.

I understand, this may sound harsh or mean.  It's not meant that way.  Truth be told, people are so busy with their own jobs/live/families/kids/spouses/projects that reconnecting with old friends is pretty low on the list of things to do when it comes to priorities.  I mean, I hardly have time to keep in touch with the people that are active members of my life....much less those that I haven't spoken to in 10 years.  Or better yet, wasn't even friends with in high school.

And to be quite honest, high school wasn't high on my list of 'memorable years.'  I hated high school.  Yes, I said it.  I wasn't well liked.  I didn't like a lot of people.  I was opinionated and bossy (I know, some things never change!) and spending 2 hours with the people I haven't seen since then - won't change their opinion of me.  And better yet, I don't care to.

What about you, friends?  Did you attend your big reunions?  What was your experience?  Or, do you plan on attending the next one?

xoxo,
ryann

  1. I'm torn on mine. Was just talking to Cassie about this yesterday, actually. I think it's a little different because I don't really live there, so would have to make a special trip home for it. I think I'd go if she went, and we would both make an effort to go if we found out others we want to see but haven't seen in a long time were going, but all of those people live out of town as well, so odds are, they won't be going. Also, I haven't heard anything about one yet, so don't know when it would be!

I agree that we keep in touch with who we want to keep in touch with, but if those people I'm friends with on facebook were to all come back to Stanhope for a reunion, I would probably want to see them. Maybe it's different because so many of the people I went to high school with moved so far away?

  2. I agree 100% with you! There are a few people that I would want to see, but could see them anytime I wanted. I also hated high school and after leaving for a year to live in Europe and returning my senior year, I didn't feel like I fit in well and didn' have a lot of frienhds. I love my life and all the people that are in it NOW! I say kuddos for not going!

  3. Rye, I'm with you on this, FB eliminates the need to "check up" on those from highschool.... I planned go, but wasn't feeling up to it(three years outside KC, and now getting re-acquanted with the allergies I forgot were so bad here).... I missed seeing Jamie, and thats about it... yet I felt/feel guilt. grr. Cilla.

P.s. loving this blog!! sorry this is my first comment.

  4. I went to my high school reunion a few years ago (yes I'm old) and I was glad I went! I'm one of those people who is curious to see how people turned out after school. I went with one of my friends from high school and I'm pretty sure people thought we were a lesbian couple, but oh well. I just wish I was a little more social because I was just as awkward that night as I was in high school. I looked good though!
